On June 20, 2025, the One Health World Microbiome Partnership Summit convened at the Académie Nationale de Médecine in Paris (hybrid format), marking the official launch of the WMP initiative and setting its strategic agenda.
The summit brought together approximately 40 international experts from science, industry, government, and global agencies. The main goals are to outline the WMP’s organizational structure, establish working groups, and define a roadmap to embed microbiome science into health, agriculture, environment, and climate policy via a One Health lens,
A summary of highlights:
- The formal unveiling of the WMP’s structure and strategic roadmap.
- Commitment to integrate microbiome science into global health, food systems, climate, and environmental strategies.
- Formation of working groups to define shared priorities across science, innovation, and policy.
WMP plans to publish summit proceedings, video recordings, and slide decks online. We will be monitoring the outcome, especially the working group on Environmental Microbiomes and Climate Change and the urging need of integration of ocean-microbiome variables into Earth- and Ocean-System Models.
